Athanassios Jimoyiannis is a professor of e-learning and ICT in Education at the Department of Social and Educational Policy of the University of Peloponnese, where he has been serving since 2004. He is currently the director of the "Laboratory of Policies for Education, eLearning, Knowledge Diffusion and Innovation". He was the director of the Postgraduate Program of Studies "Educational Programs and Materials" at the Department of Social and Educational Policy (2008-2014). He teaches at both, undergraduate and postgraduate level, subjects related to ICT in Education, e-Learning, Educational Innovations, and Digital Literacy. He also teaches at the Hellenic Open University and has previously served at the Universities of the Aegean and Ioannina.
He is coordinator of the eLearning Research Group (https://elereg.korinthos.uop.gr), which is engaged in the critical investigation and study of problems and policies for the integration of ICT in education, with emphasis on the design of e-learning programs for school education, higher education, teachers’ professional development and life-long learning. These scientific areas are studied by adopting a holistic approach at both levels, i.e. the educational policy and design as well as the implementation in educational practice.
Professor Athanassios Jimoyiannis is a member of the Scientific Review Board in various international journals and conferences in the areas of e-learning and ICT in education. He is also a board member of the Hellenic Association of Information and Communication Technologies in Education.
His current scientific-research interests include a wide range of topics related to Digital Technologies in Education, such as design and evaluation of e-learning programs, digital educational resources, ICT and teacher professional development, MOOCs, Web 2.0, Digital Literacy, Computer Science and Science Education. His publication record includes over 280 scientific articles published in peer reviewed international and Greek scientific journals, books and proceedings of international and national conferences.
Professor Athanassios Jimoyiannis has been involved in various national and EU R&D projects related to e-learning and the integration of learning technologies in formal education (primary, secondary and higher education) and teacher professional development.
He is currently serving as a member of the K-12 Greek National Curriculum Board, leading the Computer Science/ICT group. He is also member of the Scientific Committee of the National Repository of Educational Content "Photodentro".
