Dr. Dionysios Biskinis holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2000), a M.Sc. in Civil Engineering Infrastructures (2002) and a PhD (2007), from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras. Since 2022 he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Peloponnese.
He has worked as adjunct teaching personnel in higher education for 18 years. He has taught several laboratory and theoretical courses on Structural Engineering at the Department of Infrastructure Engineering, Technological Educational Institute of Patras (2004-2013) and at the Department of Civil Engineering, Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece (2013-2019). He has taught the course "Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures" at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras (2017-2023). He teaches (or has taught) courses related to the subjects of Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete, Bridge Engineering and Repair-Retrofitting at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Peloponnese (2019-today). He has worked as Adjunct Academic Staff at the Hellenic Open University in the Engineering Project Management MSc Program in the Thematic Unit Construction Project Analysis and Design. He has supervised 22 Master Theses in the Hellenic Open University postgraduate study programs. He has supervised over 40 diploma theses in the Departments of Infrastructure Engineering (TEI of Patras), of Civil Engineering (TEI of Western Greece) and Civil Engineering (University of Peloponnese).
He has more than 15 years of research experience in several European and National research programs. He has experience in managing large research projects. He has published 18 articles in scientific journals and 26 in international and Greek peer-reviewed conferences. He co-authors 9 chapters in 7 books in English. His published scientific work has over 1100 citations according to Google Scholar (January 2023 data). He is a reviewer in 9 scientific journals. He is a member of TG2.7 - Seismic Design task group of fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete).
His research activity belongs in the field of reinforced concrete structures, focusing mainly on the strength, stiffness and deformation capacity of reinforced concrete members under seismic loading, as well as of their retrofitting. Models and equations he has published have been incorporated in structural codes (Eurocode 8 – Part 3, Greek Code of Interventions, Italian Seismic Code 2005) and the fib Model Code 2010. Newer research results have been approved for incorporation into the new generation of Eurocode 8 and the new fib Model Code.
- Seismic design of reinforced concrete structures.
- Assessment and retrofitting of reinforced concrete structures.
- Strength, stiffness, deformation capacity and failure mode of reinforced concrete members under seismic loading (beams, columns, shear walls, bridge piers).
- Seismic retrofitting of reinforced concrete (RC) members (RC jacket, FRP jacket, RC infilled frames).
- Energy dissipation of reinforced concrete members.
