Maria Mikedaki was born in Piraeus. She holds a BA of the Faculty of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a M.A. and a PhD in Classical Archaeology from the University of Vienna, Austria. PhD subject: Pinakes und Thyromata im antiken griechischen Theater (in German). In the course of her postgraduate studies, she worked under the supervision of Savas Gogos and Jürgen Borchhardt. As an archaeologist, she participated in various excavations in Greece and Cyprus and worked at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture (Directorate of Byzantine and Postbyzantine Monuments, Epigraphical Museum). She also participated in research programs, supervised by the Academy of Athens, the Archaeological Society at Athens, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of the Peloponnese. Her academic career began at the Theatre Studies Department of the University of Patras, where she worked as a Contract Lecturer appointed according to Presidential Decree (P.D. 407/80) (winter semester 2005-2006). In 2009 she became a Lecturer in Ancient Greek Theatre at the Theatre Studies Department of the University of the Peloponnese; in 2016 she became Assistant Professor at the same Department and was tenured in 2020. She teaches at the Postgraduate Program of the Department of Mediterranean Studies of the University of the Aegean, entitled “Ancient Theatre: Educational and Literary Approaches” and at the Postgraduate Program of the Theatre Studies Department of the University of the Peloponnese, entitled “Theatre and Society: Theory, Staging and Didactics”. She has also taught at the Epidaurus Lyceum, an international summer school of ancient drama, located in the area of ancient Epidaurus, which operated annually (2017-2019) during the Athens and Epidaurus Festival. She has supervised, as main supervisor, a series of M.A. (13). She currently supervises four (4) PhD students and one (1) post-doctoral researcher. Maria Mikedaki is the author of three monographs (Tabula Imperii Romani, J 35 - Smyrna, I: Aegean Islands, Athens: Academy of Athens, 2012 [co-author: Pavlos Karvonis], Tabula Imperii Romani, J 34 - Athens, Boeotia, Athens: Academy of Athens, 2019, and The Painted Backdrops of the Hellenistic Theatre, Athens: Kardamitsa, 2nd edition, revised, 2023). She has written a series of articles published in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings and collective volumes and is currently writing her fourth monograph dedicated to the costumes of the ancient Greek theatre. She has participated both in international and national conferences and has given many lectures as a guest speaker.  She is a member of the Archaeological Society at Athens. She is married with two children.
