Elective
Introduction to Narrative and Scriptwriting
Katerina Kaneli
From its first steps, humanity has learned to cultivate the art of storytelling, an art that is always at the heart of social bonds. Stories are everywhere: in fiction, film, social media, advertising, the news, and in video games. At present, we often shape events within the logic of storytelling to better understand them. The course aims to study the types of narrative techniques as they are encountered in old and new media, through linear and non-linear aspects. Through the multiple approaches of critical theory, from the 1960-1970 structural model to the "narrative studies" of today (poststructuralist model), terms such as perspective, time, and narrative rhythm, first and third person narration will be studied. The hero's journey, the development of a rich narrative world, the transformation of an idea into a story and scenario are stages of a creative and often painful process for which we will make the first outline.
