Dr. Georgios Panoutsopoulos is an Associate Professor of Human Physiology at the Department of Nutritional Science and Dietetics of the University of Peloponnese. He graduated from the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the UK and obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Pharmacy of the same University.
Between 1998-2010, he worked for various Universities in Greece where he taught mainly Human Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology. At the same time, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Experimental Pharmacology of the Medical School of Athens University.
In 2010, he was appointed as a faculty member at the rank of Lecturer in the Department of Nursing of the University of Peloponnese, in 2013 as an Assistant Professor, and in 2018 as an Associate Professor where he taught Physiology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and English Terminology. In 2020, he moved to the Department of Nutritional Science and Dietetics where he teaches Human Physiology I and II, Pathophysiology, English Terminology, and Drug-Food Interactions.
At the postgraduate level, he has taught in the MSc "Management of Health Services and Crisis Management" of the Department of Nursing (25 hours) and in the MSc "Organization and Administration of Sports Organizations and Businesses" of the Department of Organization and Management of Sports (5 hours). Additionally, he has taught Pharmacology" in the MSc "Trauma and Ulcers: Treatment-Care" of the Department of Nursing of the ATEI of Athens (26 hours each year for 3 years), and Physiology for 2 semesters in the MSc "Management of Aging and Chronic Diseases" of the EAP. He acted as a supervisor for 19 postgraduate diploma theses and was a member of the three-member advisory/examination committee for 28.
He acts as a supervisor for 13 doctoral theses (9 completed) and 2 post-doctoral theses, as a member of the Three-Member Advisory Committee for 4 Ph.D. candidates, and as a member of the Seven-Member Examining Committee for 11 Ph.D. candidates.
In 2019 he was appointed by the Senate of the University of Peloponnese as Deputy President and in 2021 as President of the Department of Nutritional Science and Dietetics. In 2019, he was appointed by gazette to the Medicines Price Negotiation Committee of the Ministry of Health and his three-year term was renewed in 2022. He is a member of the Research Committee, a member of the Senate, and Director of the Laboratory of Biochemistry, Physiology, Exercise Physiology, and Pharmacology since 2022.
He has written 4 university books: 1) "English Terminology for Health Sciences" (562 pages, 28 chapters, 2016), 2) "English Medical Terminology for Health Sciences" (670 pages, 45 chapters, 2018), 3) "Listening Practice Tests 1-8 – English Medical Terminology for Health Sciences" (95 pages and 1 CD, 2018), 4) "Human Physiology for Health Sciences" (614 pages, 2020). Also, he has edited with others, 9 books mainly on physiology and pharmacology.
He has authored 87 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals (total impact factor= 199.884) and 16 publications in Greek peer-reviewed journals. He has received 1,797 citations based on Google Scholar, h-index= 24, and i-10 index= 42. He has presented his research at 150 international and Greek conferences and has participated as an invited speaker at 20 Greek conferences. He has been an invited speaker for 15 conferences, a coordinator at 12 round-tables, and a member of committees at 7 Greek and international conferences. He has received 13 awards from Greek conferences and 1 distinction with the awarding of the Certificate of Licentiateship title from the London School of Polymer Technology.
He has a teaching certificate in the English language. He has served as a member of several Scientific Societies, served as a member of the Editorial Board of Greek and International Scientific Journals, and has acted as a reviewer for over 50 papers in 15 foreign language scientific journals.
