Dr. Ing. Panos I. Philippopoulos, Assistant Professor at the Digital Systems Dept., School of Economy & Technology, University of the Peloponnese (2019 – prior TEI of Peloponnese since 2011), Greece, received his Diploma in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (1994) and Ph.D. degree in “Mobile & Personal Telecommunications” (1999) both from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
He has participated in numerous European and National R&D projects (RACE, ACTS, IST FP5, IST FP6/7, ESPA). He has been head of the R&D section (2001-2005), in TEMAGON S.A., consulting branch of Greek ex-incumbent operator OTE, R&D manager with the Institute of Informatics and Telecomm/s (IIT) at NCSR “Demokritos” (2005-2007), project manager at the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (Hellenic Ministry of Development, 2007), and Operational Programme Manager at the Special Secretariat for Digital Convergence (Hellenic Ministry of Economics, 2007-2010).
His research interests include location-based technologies and service platforms (current project MELTOPENLAB – museum visitor tracking and augmented experience, older LIAISON – mobile professional sectors LBS), Precision Agriculture Services (recent project GREENWATERDRONE – crop surveillance & irrigation management using drones), terrestrial / satellite mobile networks & services (projects MOBIVAS, NOMAD, SATIN), business modelling for innovative services / environments (projects DAIDALOS, ENTHRONE), coding / security and development of broadband services (projects VISIONAIR, AV-PACK, WINMAN, HOMETALK). He has authored more than 25 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. He is member of the Greek Technical Chamber (1994), IEEE (1998) and numerous national and international technical committees.
