Vassilis Poulopoulos is Assistant Professor at the Department of Digital Systems, and member of the Knowledge and Uncertainty Research Laboratory of the University of Peloponnese.
He was born in Kalamata in 1982 and completed his studies at the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Patras in 2010. From the aforementioned department he received his B.Sc. degree, M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Ph.D. degree with the title Analysis, Preprocessing, Categorization and Presentation of Data from Internet Sources.
At the same time, between 2002 and 2010 he worked at the ITYE Diophantus (formerly EAITY) as a research engineer in European and national projects.
After 2010 and until 2016 he was involved in start-up entrepreneurship and is a founding member of the HSA (Hellenic Association of Start-ups). During the same period he made entrepreneurial moves related to the creation of web applications. Between 2013 - 2017 he was the Chief Technology Officer of H+S Technology Solutions, Palo and CloudKeys. At the same time he became a founding member of the Hellenic Blockchain Hub (HBH). After 2015 from the Kalamata area he carried out social actions around STEM and code learning, while in the same period he started his collaboration with TEI of Peloponnese and the University of Peloponnese. From 2016 to 2019 he is a scientific associate at TEI of Peloponnese (departments of Accounting, Food Technology and Computer Engineering TE - now Digital Systems) and a research associate of the University of Peloponnese with his participation as an experienced researcher in research projects. He was also a the Technical Director of the Internship Programme of the University of Peloponnese.
From 2018 to 2019 he is conducting Postdoctoral Research, with Associate Professor Manolis Wallace at the University of Peloponnese on the topic of Big Data and Culture.
In 2019, he is elected Assistant Professor at the Department of Digital Systems and participates in Research Projects of the first cycle of the Research - Create - Innovate program. At the University of Peloponnese and in collaboration with the Knowledge and Uncertainty Laboratory (ΓΑΒ LAB) he carries out activities in collaboration with students, and he is the creator of the educational game Grifobot (grifobot.gr).
During his stay in Kalamata (2014 - ), he carries out social actions with the NGO "O Sporos", of which he is co-founder, which are related to culture, tourism, entrepreneurship and technology. Typical actions are grant-funded projects: Learning to Recognize Fake News for children and young people (fakenewshunter.gr) and the Kalamata for All project (k4a.osporos.com) which recorded thematic accessible routes in the city of Kalamata.
He is married to Nineta Sotirakis, an educator and French teacher and they have two daughters.
