Irinie Vgenopoulou received her Diploma from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras. She holds an MScE in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Patras.
Since 1998 she has worked as a Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of the Peloponnese.
She has worked as a freelance engineer performing design and supervision of shallow foundations of multi-story buildings, and geotechnical, static, and seismic design of buildings(1984 – 1991)
She was appointed at the Technical Service of the University Hospital of Patras where she served as a director (1991 – 1998).
She was appointed as a Professor at the Department of Infrastructure of the TEI Patras specializing in geotechnical engineering.
She has served as Chairperson of the Department for six years (2017- 2018 till 2022-2023)
As a Professor of the Department she has served as Vice President of the Research Committee, tentative President, and member of several committees of the former TEI of Patras, Western Greece, and now of the University of the Peloponnese.
She has participated in several scientific conferences and she has published in international refereed journals. Her work is cited in international scientific journals.
She has participated in research projects as a principal investigator and as a research team member.
Field of interest: Geotechnical mechanics, Soil dynamics, Flow through porous media, Constitutive equations, and numerical methods in Soil Mechanics.
